Hosting & Service Plans
A website is much like a car – it needs an ideal place to live, and regular servicing!
All our sites and hosting plans include Basic WordPress Hardening to safeguard against malicious attacks, but without regular monitoring and updates the integrity of the site cannot be ensured. This is why we’ve put together a series of packages to keep your website secure, up to date and running smoothly.
The plans are billed monthly by direct debit and cover site updates, security alerts and ongoing development.
For Service Plan and Enterprise clients, allocated hours are at a reduced rate and rolled over and reviewed quarterly.

Argh… can you help me with the jargon!
Websites *are* technical things, and some folks like to understand what’s under the hood – here’s some of the more specific elements, but just ask us if you need any more info!
Performance
Server Type
There are lots of types of servers, but essentially smaller sites tend to run on Apache, and busier / eCommerce sites need a multi-threaded approach with NGINX. We recommend the right server for your needs, and can scale up or down depending on needs.
Performance
CDN
A Content Delivery Network (CDN) offloads core and large site files and distributes over geographical servers, meaning the files get served from the closest location to you. We use BunnyCDN – super fast, and another layer of security!
Security
Patchstack
Patchstack is an innovative security that automatically deploys highly targeted protection rules (virtual patches) for all high and medium priority vulnerabilities without any changes to your code or site performance.
Security
Immunify360
Imunify360 is a completely automated security solution. It includes a distributed Threat Intelligence approach, which processes data reported by all running Imunify360 instances. Upon first cyber-attack or threat detection, Imunify360 provides instant protection.
Whoa hold up – I can find cheaper hosting online!
There are many hosting providers out there, some of which we used to use before investing in dedicated servers of our own.
Here’s what we include, that others charge extra for:
Daily backups
You’d think this would be a given, but no; most providers add this as an optional extra! It’s come in handy for various reasons on our sites in the past, and you’re safe in the knowledge we keep these for up to 30 days.
Technical expertise
This is often overlooked – but if you’re choosing your own hosting and there are some technical issues, you’ll be expected to speak with their support team to help resolve them – or pay us to speak with them on your behalf.
The right spec
Another crucial aspect is knowing how to spec the server for your requirements. We know what is necessary to power a large eCommerce site or a smaller marketing site and configure it accordingly, plus we know how your site is configured so troubleshooting is far easier.
What is support and maintenance? Shouldn’t it be included?
WordPress is a rapidly evolving platform, and the sky really is the limit. As such, it is near constantly being improved to keep on the cutting edge. It’s also open source, meaning any developer can contribute and you can take the hosting anywhere you like. Platforms such as Wix, Shopify and WebFlow outright own the software, control who and how it’s managed, and ultimately you’re only ever renting your site from them.
So whilst we’ve put the site together for you, it uses hundreds of thousands of lines of 3rd party code, which keeps initial build costs leaner, but means there are several parameters to manage as it progresses. For example, from time to time, Google change how their maps and tracking is implemented, which then needs to be updated on your site.
Why maintenance?
Web browsers, computer and mobile operating systems are updated all the time to contend with higher capacities and new technologies.
Think about how often your computer needs to run updates – mostly they are security patches, but also they can include new features. Just as computers and browsers become obsolete, so can websites.
As such, the site needs regular updates to keep it secure and performing as best it can.
What do we do?
Each month we run the WordPress Core update and any necessary plugin updates. We’ll let you know what day this is scheduled for, and let you know when it is complete.
During this time, the site will be in ‘maintenance mode’ whilst we run the updates.
If you are on our Enterprise plan, we run the updates on the Staging site first to ensure you remain unaffected on your live site.
How does ‘Service plan’ work?
- We keep a note of time spent and log this in 15 min blocks – so simpler amends are easily handled and don’t incur higher costs.
- We operate on a ‘use it or lose it’ scheme, so hours cannot be rolled over to each quarter.
- Additionally, being on our plan means you are eligible for faster response times in accordance with our SLAs.
- The plan is reviewed on an annual basis and the monthly hours can be increased or decreased accordingly.
The small print
If the the Service Plan scheme is not used, any support requests or new development will be charged at our normal rate of £70 per hour, and will incur our minimum charge of £70 + VAT. Costs are per site per month. Larger projects can be quoted outside of the retained hours.
‘Minor updates’ constitute anything that takes under 15 minutes to do in a rolling monthly or quarterly period depending on your plan, e.g change some text or image. We will quote accordingly if it is more substantial work.
‘Auto Updates’ means we set your site to automatically update. This means important security updates are run as deployed, but can sometimes result in the site breaking. This is why we always recommend managed updates. If the site breaks, we have a minimum charge of £70+VAT to investigate. In most cases this will result in a fix, but anything more substantial will be quoted accordingly.
‘Premium plugins’ – the majority of our sites use licensed plugins to operate: this results in reduced development costs and greater functionality. We use multisite licenses to greatly reduce the cost. If you choose to host elsewhere, these will be deactivated on your site.
