Hamara Linux is India’s first native operating system – built with open source technology with the community in mind, Hamara is a vision of a system of exchange: of skills, knowledge and ideas. Hamara connects people and places who have never had computers, flourishing with its already strong community of professionals and consumers, all with the open source ethos of sharing and distributing knowledge.
We approached the logo with several things in mind – it had to be modern, accessible, distinctively Indian but with a global reach. Based on our own take of the Hamsa symbol, which primarily protects against the ‘evil eye’ (read: NSA biased big tech companies!) but is also a quintessential eastern symbol – an open hand signifying sharing, also reminiscent of the ‘on’ switch. With a rich, vibrant colour palette it rings true to the Indian culture itself, but equally at home on a desktop anywhere in the world.
We created a hindi version of the logo, brand guidelines, brochures and merchandise as well as designing the responsive website – http://www.hamaralinux.org
